Background
Dharamshala has many small communities who are in need. There are two types of schools – government funded and privately funded. The private schools have better infrastructure and facilities and have high fees. The government-funded schools are free and the funds are limited.
Challenge
Instead of paying for a child’s education, parents prefer their children to bear the responsibility of domestic labour like fetching water and cleaning the house. In fact, there are many tribes and communities which are unaware of the advantages and meaning of a good education.
SBB Intervention
We work with a government funded school to provide high quality education for the most vulnerable. Volunteers are highly needed for English teaching, for German classes, Arts and craft as well as Sports education.
- Do assessment of children’s English
- Prepare lesson plans or follow the book lessons
- Teach communication skills to children
- Teach basic grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing
- Come up with ideas of games, songs, dances to make the teaching interactive
- Enjoy and have fun with super excited and joyful students
SBB works with a local NGO that targets vulnerable children who need education support and social justice. We support our local partner organising afterschoolactivities for children. Those who are native German
- Can hold German classes for small group of children who will have further opportunities to study in Germany or to get admission in German based college.
- German teacher volunteers need to prepare their own content as there are no fixed books suggested because German is not a school subject
- Come up with creative ways of teaching including movie screening, discussion clubs, interactive games, etc.
We always love to welcome new ideas from our volunteers, we’d be happy to hear from you!
- With a local NGO SBB organises extracurricular arts and crafts sessions for rural children.
- Many kids have a potential but they don’t have an opportunity to improve their skillsand get to another level.
- With our foreign volunteers we want to give access to rural children to Arts and Crafts.
- Any volunteer who is good at drawing, singing, dancing or other form of arts is welcome to join our teaching pool.
- Do morning warm-up for school children
- Prepare physical education plan for each class
- Teach any sport you are good at
- Learn local Indian sports and help the children play them (sitolia, cricket, etc.)
