Festivals in Armenia
As human beings life is part of happiness and we need to socialize with our fellow beings make ourselves familiar with other cultures. Social heritage includes customs, various traditions, one’s moral values, beliefs, and much more. Festivals are one of them. They are both socially and economically important. They are like stress relievers that help us in making us emotionally balanced. Festivals make a more positive environment and lower negativity. They not only help in nation-building but also helps in maintaining unity among diversity.
Armenia is a land full of festivals. People here love celebrating various festivals and have fun. Few of the popular festivals are listed below celebrated by Armenian people.
Yerevan jazz day
This day is celebrated on April 30 in Yerevan’s Cascade Complex. This festival is fun for all jazz lovers. Various jazz lovers from the country as well as outside the country come together to prove that music plays an important role in communication over differences.
Yerevan wine day
The Areni Festival Fund hosts this festival. It is held on May 11-12 for two days on Saryan Street. In this festival, each day has its significance and 15 leading local wineries present their product and various dishes are represented by famous restaurants. The event is accompanied by songs and concerts. For 4000 AMD visitors receives coupons that include glass, three wine tasting coupons and three discount voucher of 20% in restaurants.
The Syunik Mulberry Festival
This festival is held on July 7 in Goris Regional Park. This is held to boost the economical base and social life of this area. This festival experiences various dishes of mulberry from the people.
The Vardavar Festival
This festival is held on July 8 and is celebrated all over Armenia. In this festival rose water is sprinkled all over Armenia. A famous tale behind this tells that goddess Astghik spread love in form of rose water all over Armenia. Everyone splashes water on each other on this day.
Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival
This festival is celebrated at the Moscow Cinema between July 8-15. This is an international film festival held to encourage the film maker’s and establish good relations. The films addressing people’s daily lives and human experience are shown.
Yerevan Color Run
This festival is held in the Hamilar Complex. This festival includes a 5km run without any rules and regulations in which the participants are soaked in bright colors which are harmless throughout the run. The top three winners are awarded from each gender.
Taraz (National Dress) Festival
This festival is celebrated in Yerevan on August 4. In this festival, people dress up according to Armenian culture and reflect their local and national cultural identity.
International Balloon Festival
This festival is held on September 15-18. It focuses on enhancing tourism and various countries make the sky picture-perfect by flying colorful balloons in the sky.
